Training Future Practitioners for a Changing and Diverse Society: Offering a Paradigm Shift in Healthcare Delivery

Neil Pitts, PharmD

Room 6

Today's healthcare system is both complex and often unhelpful in assuring complete health care in under-served communities. This can be especially true in urban settings where access to care can be challenging. Frequently students in healthcare education lack practical experiences in which to imagine their own contributions. As clinical instructors, our job is to mentor healthcare students to find their own paths to enhancing health literacy, as well as bringing medical hope and compassion to often disenfranchised neighborhoods. This workshop will present concepts through which training of future healthcare professionals can be fostered.
